Our Story

Michael E. Cahn, born in Osyka, Mississippi, founded our company in 1917 as a way to distribute various supplies for the sugar mills, farms and other industries across Louisiana and Mississippi.

During the 1950s and 1960s, our business and interests shifted towards cutting tool and machine tool distribution. Fast forward to today and we remain a family owned and operated company that provides manufacturers throughout Louisiana and Mississippi with total metalworking solutions for increased productivity and profitability.

Representing top names in the industry, including Mazak, Sandvik Coromant, HEM and Lenox, we offer all different types of machine tools and fabrication equipment along with ancillary products to satisfy the part processing needs of small machine shops and large manufacturing plants alike.

Our Historic Location

For over 106 years, we have operated our business out of 901 Tchoupitoulas (chop-i-too-luhs), located in the Historic Warehouse District of downtown New Orleans.

DIXIE MILL, Circa 1930s

DIXIE MILL, Today

Originally, the district was the Industrial Center of New Orleans because of its access to the Mississippi River ports and railroad terminals. In 1984, the city hosted the World’s Fair, which was the catalyst for evolving the district into the diverse area it is today.
